Feachtas na meánsóisialta do Lá le Pádraig / St Patricks’ Day social media campaign

St Patrick’s Day 2024 will be celebrated in Ireland and around the world against the backdrop of growing discussion on constitutional change.

This St Patrick’s Day activists are being asked to participate in a social media project which will capitalise on the world’s focus on Ireland and Irish affairs.

Please contact your family and friends who are living abroad and ask them to record a 10 second video in support of Irish unity.

Some suggested lines are;

“Dia daoibh we are the O’Briens from Cullyhanna, now living in Perth.  We want to come home to vote in the unity referendums.”

“Hi I am here in Chigago where the river will turn green for St Patrick’s Day.  I want a united Ireland for a stronger economy and better public services.”

“We are here in Hanoi, Vietnam and we want to see a united Ireland in the next ten years.  The Irish government needs to call a Citizens Assembly to start planning properly.”

“I’ve been living in Birmingham for 30 years, I look forward to the day that young Irish people don’t have to emigrate, uniting our country is the first step in the change that will keep our young people at home.”

Clips should be filmed from a recognisable landmark if possible and sent by WeTransfer to [email protected] by Tuesday 12th March.  Clips can also be sent by WhatsApp through the party structures.

The party will upload a collage of videos on St Patrick’s Day at 12 noon and those who have made recordings are asked share the party’s video and to upload their own video to their personal social media pages at the same time.

The Hashtag to use with the post is #Diaspora4Unity

Please support this initiative to ensure that public attention is focussed on Irish unity this St Patrick’s Day.
